“Best of Year” 2009 award for healthcare product design from Interior Design magazine, and collaboration between HDR Architecture and David Edward Furniture (manufacturer). I served as lead designer for this sleeper sofa aimed at hospital room environments. The product had a very specific program and functional requirements. It features a unique folding mechanism without metal hardware. The sleeping surface drapes over the seating surface in sections joined by fabric hinges. The mechanism not only achieves segregation of sleeping and seating surfaces, but also manages to keep the footprint undisturbed. It also accomplishes its function without removal of cushions or parts that may be in contact with the floor. The product was released on the market Summer 2009.
